At Genoa Creek Falls the marvelous untidy mixed scrub opens over the sharply defined elements of water moving over granite rocks. Teaming with life, large stones of all shapes covered with moss are counter pointed by small stones and patches of revegetation which grow wherever they can find space for roots. Moving up the falls is to be surrounded by the sound of moving water. As is ever the case, you take time in places like this to let the smaller things in the landscape come out at you. It is this seeing which is so enjoyable for me, and taking pictures of this experience is a bit of an afterthought, although composing these subjects through the view finder is a separate activity which is fun too. On this afternoon there was stillness in the air and a calm even light. I ended up looking at details rather than wide views though a couple of panoramas may have been helpful to you as you look over what is here. Genoa Creek falls is close to the towns of Genoa and Mallacoota, and it is where people come to have picnics or swim. Having such a lovely place so close is wonderful for the communities. After heavy rain the creek swells and its gentle water falls and twisting streams become more energetic, harder and colder. Swimming then is difficult. Gary Proctor |
