The Mallacoota storage basins stores - 40 million litres of raw water & 20 million litres of clear water. The fully treated water meets World Health Organisation Standards and is chlorinated to maintain bacterial removal. The Betka River supplies all the raw water from a small catchment south of the Princes Highway. During drought periods, bore water is also drawn to supplemnt supplies. The present security of supply is very high and plans are in progress to keep security of supply over the 90% range. The entire township is fully sewered. A lagoon system treats raw sewerage and all waste water produced from the system is recycled. The Authority has a 120Ha farm comprising mainly tree plantation, which utilises the recycled water on site. The local golf course also uses the recycled waste water. |
